You can enjoy virtually invisible teeth-straightening while continuing to eat the foods you enjoy, brush and floss your teeth normally for better oral health and minimize office visits. The choice is clear!

However, you might wonder why it’s necessary to see an orthodontist for your Invisalign treatment. Here are the top reasons why only an orthodontist should treat you or your teen:

You only want to do this once. Do it right.

Everyone knows an orthodontist’s goals are straight teeth and a healthy bite. We ensure that the teeth, upper and lower jaws, gums and facial muscles are positioned so that you can bite, chew and speak well. Without taking these components into consideration, problems can arise, such as issues with the jaw joint (TMJ), headaches, excessive wearing or chipping of the teeth, premature tooth loss and gum problems.

Orthodontists identify the cause of the problem, and then solve it.

You may see crooked or gapped teeth. We see the cause of the problem. Orthodontists use their education, experience and expertise to delve deep to discover the root of the issue and solve it in a way that is healthy and sustainable– for an attractive smile and a lasting result.

Orthodontics goes beyond your teeth.

Orthodontists study facial esthetics and understand how tooth movement can change your facial profile, smile line and general appearance. We understand how it relates to the face and future growth changes and take a holistic, comprehensive approach to your treatment so that your overall appearance is considered along with your smile.

Orthodontists are specialists.

After our dental school education, orthodontists devote an additional 2-3 years to the study of only orthodontics. We practice orthodontics exclusively. We focus our continuing education on orthodontics and see hundreds of patients per month. We are uniquely positioned to use our knowledge and skills to help you get the best possible result.

Invisalign – The Clear Choice for Orthodontics During Social Distancing https://www.supersmilz.com/invisalign-the-clear-choice-for-orthodontics-during-social-distancing/ Wed, 27 May 2020 20:49:46 +0000 https://www.supersmilz.com/?p=1132 We live in strange times – gestures once taken for granted – handshakes, hugs, fist bumps – are now taboo; even our smiles are often hidden behind masks. But that doesn’t mean no one is seeing your smile. COVID-19 has meant socially distancing ourselves but it has also meant a boom in social media. Humans are social creatures and we’ve found new and creative ways to connect even while apart.

More selfies, virtual school, virtual meetings, and video chats are happening than ever before, which means we are even more up close and personal with our smiles. We all want to feel confident on screen – teens and adults alike. Self confidence is a huge factor in teen development and having a beautiful smile increases teen confidence when they’ve achieved the smile they’ve always wanted.

Now that the stay-at-home orders have been lifted, there is no reason to wait on getting the smile of your dreams for you or your child; and at Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson, we have combined the technology of Invisalign and Virtual Appointments, to make sure you are as safe as possible while achieving that smile.

Why is Invisalign a great choice right now?

While we are all allowed out and about again, we’re doing everything we can to ensure the safety and well-being of our patients.  Invisalign allows for fewer in-person appointments while still ensuring you get the expertise of a trained and specialized orthodontist like Dr. Wilde. It’s extremely important to have an expert orthodontist plan, execute, and monitor your orthodontic treatment to ensure the best outcome as well as maintain the health of your teeth during treatment.  To get started, we use a 3D scanner to take images of your teeth and bone structure in order to map out a customized treatment plan and to build custom aligners that will help straighten your smile – invisibly. That means less time in your mouth to get started.

Once your treatment plan is put in place, you will receive clear aligners to wear 22 hours a day – no skimping or treatment will take longer! We will want to see you for appointments, just like with braces, but with Invisalign we can space those appointments further out!  During your treatment, you will receive a few batches of clear Invisalign aligners at a time. We then gauge your progress at appointments, and if all is going well, we move to the next set.

While we’d rather see each and every one of our patients all the time, we are doing our best to implement the procedures that the CDC laid out for orthodontic care during this time.  Invisalign allows us to help you attain the smile of your dreams- it’s the clear choice. At Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson we have the expertise with both orthodontics and technology to help you get that smile. Our fun and friendly office may look a bit different than it used to, but we’re still finding ways to make sure you feel the love while you’re here!

There is so much that we’re depriving ourselves of these days, don’t let the smile of your dreams be one of those things. We have flexible financing options available.

Call us today at (520) 742-1232 to schedule a free consultation – we can start virtually or in person – your choice!

We’re Going Virtual! https://www.supersmilz.com/an-important-message-from-the-team-at-orthodontic-specialists-of-tucson/ Fri, 03 Apr 2020 20:38:17 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=1045 Dear Patients and Families of Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson,

At Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson, our main goal has always been to protect the health of our patients, our team, and our community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor of Arizona has mandated that all dental and orthodontic practices temporarily discontinue in-office appointments, other than emergency appointments, until April 30th, 2020. Until such time as we are able to see patients face-to-face, we have implemented a new virtual platform that will enable us to continue seeing patients for virtual appointments. Virtual *is* reality!

What this means for you:

  • We’re here for you. If you have an orthodontic emergency, please contact us at (520) 742-1232 and we’ll take care of you.
  • We will now be conducting appointments via video conference! We will reach out to you with details prior to your next appointment. We would love to continue to monitor our patients who are in active treatment and will be doing so through the use of photos sent to the doctors, and a virtual appointment held online from your home with the use of a phone or computer.
  • All new consultations will be conducted virtually. If a family member or friend has been considering orthodontics – we will meet you where you are, virtually! We will be able to meet you, analyze photos that you can send in via our virtual platform, and then discuss the possible treatment options as well as schedule you for an appointment to have full x-rays taken. Click here to learn more!

We wish you all good health at this time. We are here to help support you and your families. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach us via phone, text, or email. We look forward to continuing our relationship through virtual means at this time, as well as looking forward to the time when we can begin to see you in our clinic again!

Stay safe and well,

The Team at Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson

Dr. Brian Wilde Joins Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson https://www.supersmilz.com/dr-brian-wilde-joins-orthodontic-specialists-of-tucson/ Sun, 01 Mar 2020 18:36:27 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=1035 Dear Patients,

The past few years we’ve often been asked if we’re going to retire any time soon. Our response has always been that we look forward to being in the office each day. For almost 30 years we have been surrounded by a dedicated and caring team of professionals that have provided our patients with a quality of care that makes our office unique. We have had the privilege of forging extraordinary connections with our patients, their families and our colleagues that are more like family bonds than professional relationships. Thank you for the trust you have shown in choosing our practice.

As you know, we have been spending less time in the office. You may not know that Dr. Pearcy has had some health concerns that have influenced our decision to spend more time together. We felt it was important to find a way to protect the well-being of our patients and the office team that is a vital part of our patient’s care. For some time, we have been on the lookout for an orthodontist who could join the practice with the same philosophy and carry it into the future.

Recently, we were introduced to Dr. Brian Wilde. Dr. Wilde attended Brigham Young University on the prestigious BYU Academic Scholarship. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine and completed his orthodontic residency and Master’s in Oral Biology at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Orthodontic Resident Award in 2015, is a member of the E. Steven Smith Student Dental Honors Society and is fluent in Spanish. He has been in the private practice of orthodontics since 2015.

We have spent the last 30 years creating a practice based on excellent care and service. Just as you were selective in choosing our practice, we have been careful to choose an orthodontist who shares our values. Dr. Wilde is very excited to join the practice and he is committed to providing the highest level of care and service. We are thrilled and fortunate to find someone who shares our vision and is eager to learn the insights we’ve gained in the last three decades. He and his family have extensive ties to the Southwest and are very excited to become a part of the Tucson community.

Considering Dr. Wilde’s commitment to excellence, the similarity in our treatment philosophy, his passion to learn, and the level of experience he brings; our transition will be a relatively simple one. While little will outwardly change on March 1, 2020, Dr. Wilde’s corporation will replace our corporation as the owner of the practice. Dr. A will remain involved in the care of our patients.

Dr. Wilde will provide a fresh perspective, another “set of eyes”, and an in-house third opinion to the practice. He is eager to re-invigorate the office and provide greater convenience, including expanding the schedule to offer more after-school appointments. The staff you have come to know are all planning  to remain and make the transition as seamless as possible.

We intend to remain personally involved in the care of patients currently in treatment.  We will stay involved in the practice to facilitate Dr. Wilde’s integration into the office and the community. Dr. Wilde looks forward to getting to know you and your family. We are very excited about the future of the practice. Thank you again for the confidence you have shown in us.

Most sincerely,

Mittida Raksanaves, DDS, MS

Daniel E. Pearcy, DDS, MS

Adult Orthodontics: With Invisalign, the Answer is Clear! https://www.supersmilz.com/adult-orthodontics-with-invisalign-the-answer-is-clear/ Mon, 28 Oct 2019 19:01:25 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=1023 At Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson, we care about not only helping our teens, but about helping adults as well. A straight smile is crucial to making that first impression count…because of this, we offer Invisalign Adult, the clear alternative. With all of our team’s experience as Invisalign Providers, we are happy to offer the answers to the top common questions that we’re asked about Invisalign. It is a high priority to us that our patients are educated on what we’re doing every step of the way so that they understand their treatment plans and feel comfortable with our process and timelines – that goes for teens and adults!

How does Invisalign Adult work?

During a consultation, Dr. Raskanaves and Dr. Pearcy determines the exact movements necessary to get your teeth into the correct position. Our team then has a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. As you replace each Invisalign aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will gradually and gently shift-little by little, until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Raskanaves has prescribed.

What are some of the responsibilities of wearing Invisalign?

It’s very important that aligners are worn the majority of the day. Compliance and cooperation is critical to any orthodontic care but especially Invisalign. Invisalign is most effective when worn 20 to 22 hours per day and changed approximately every two weeks. In fact, Invisalign aligners have blue indicators that fade over time when used as directed so we can track compliance. When Invisalign aligners are worn as directed, treatment can stay on track!

The top 5 benefits of Invisalign:

Clear: Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. No hiding your smile in meetings, engagement photos or school pick-ups and no closed-lipped selfies here!

Comfortable: Made out of smooth, sleek plastic, Invisalign aligners are extremely comfortable.

Removable: Don’t want your date to know you’re working on your smile? Take them off for the evening…just remember to put them back in before you go to sleep! It may not seem like it, but they’re constantly working while you go throughout your day.

Convenient: Fewer visits to the orthodontist, meaning fewer interruptions of your busy schedule. You only need to visit us about once every 2-3 months to ensure that your treatment progress is on track.

Wait! Don’t Order DIY Orthodontic Treatment Until You Read This https://www.supersmilz.com/wait-dont-order-diy-orthodontic-treatment-until-you-read-this/ Mon, 24 Jun 2019 18:04:22 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=997 It’s easy to do so many things these days with the click of a button. Order shoes! Get a ride across town. Watch your favorite blockbuster movie! It seems like every day there’s a newer and easier way to do almost everything. We’ve been programmed to accept that anything can be ordered online and delivered right to our front door. However, at Tucson Orthodontics there is one thing that we believe has no easy replacement: orthodontic treatment. There is no match for a trained, experienced professional when it comes to your oral health.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) agrees. They recently issued a Consumer Alert listing key questions to ask about direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies. You can download a print-friendly version here.

The issue is that many direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies don’t involve the in-person evaluation and/or in-person supervision of your treatment that we provide at Tucson Orthodontics. In-person supervision and expertise is important because there is more to creating a healthy, beautiful smile than moving the visible portions of your teeth. If not done correctly any dental work can lead to potentially irreversible and expensive damage such as tooth and gum loss, changed bites, and other issues.

The Top 10 Questions To Ask

The AAO advises that when researching orthodontic treatment (including treatment models from direct-to-consumer companies), you should consider many key questions, some of which include:

  1. As part of your treatment, are comprehensive diagnostic records like x-rays taken before your treatment?
  2. As part of your treatment fee, do you receive any in-person visits to a dentist’s or orthodontist’s office during your treatment?
  3. Is only one treatment type offered (such as invisible aligners or a certain appliance)?
  4. If a dentist or orthodontist is involved with your treatment, do you know the name of the dentist or orthodontist who will be specifically involved with your case (for example, is it available on the company’s website or elsewhere)?
  5. What are the possible risks (financial, health, etc.) associated with your orthodontic treatment?
  6. Who is responsible for detecting any issues that may occur during your orthodontic treatment? Is it you? If it is a doctor not associated with your treatment, who pays for those check-ups?
  7. If a doctor is involved with your orthodontic treatment, how can you contact him or her over the course of your treatment? How can you contact him or her if an emergency arises?
  8. If an emergency arises, does the company have a dentist or orthodontist in your area that you can see in-person? If not, who would cover the costs associated with seeing a dentist or orthodontist in your area?
  9. If you are injured or have another dispute involving your orthodontic treatment, how is it handled (litigation, arbitration, etc.) and what rights do you have?
  10. Does the treatment model comply with the dental laws in your state? To check your state’s dental laws, click https://www.aaoinfo.org/state-laws-and-regulations. Information for your state dental board can be found at https://www.aaoinfo.org/aao/state-dental-board-info.

Where You Receive Your Health Care Is A Very Important Personal Decision

Remember that orthodontic treatment is not a product or device – it is a professional, medical service. Dr. Pearcy received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Indiana University where he graduated 2nd in a class of 98 students. He completed his post-doctoral orthodontic specialty training at the University of Louisville.

He holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with Highest Honors, a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics, a Master’s Degree in Oral Biology and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Academic Fraternity, a recipient of the Psi Omega Academic Excellence Award, and was selected as the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Outstanding Student by his dental faculty.

Dr. Raksanaves graduated 1st in her dental school class of 93 students, receiving Highest Honors from the King of Thailand. She also completed her post-doctoral Orthodontic Training at the University of Louisville.

Dr. Raksanaves holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with Highest Honors, a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics, a Master’s Degree in Oral Biology and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Before making any decision about orthodontic treatment, consider doing some research and having a complimentary in-person consultation at Tucson Orthodontics. We recognize that all our patients are unique and deserve to receive orthodontic care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding orthodontic experience every time you visit our practice.

We’re happy to answer all questions and we’ll make sure you or your child receives the right treatment plan for them.
