Dr. Pearcy and Raksanaves or Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson, PC http://www.supersmilz.com Mon, 28 Oct 2019 19:13:04 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.3 Adult Orthodontics: With Invisalign, the Answer is Clear! http://www.supersmilz.com/adult-orthodontics-with-invisalign-the-answer-is-clear/ Mon, 28 Oct 2019 19:01:25 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=1023 At Orthodontic Specialists of Tucson, we care about not only helping our teens, but about helping adults as well. A straight smile is crucial to making that first impression count…because of this, we offer Invisalign Adult, the clear alternative. With all of our team’s experience as Invisalign Providers, we are happy to offer the answers to the top common questions that we’re asked about Invisalign. It is a high priority to us that our patients are educated on what we’re doing every step of the way so that they understand their treatment plans and feel comfortable with our process and timelines – that goes for teens and adults!

How does Invisalign Adult work?

During a consultation, Dr. Raskanaves and Dr. Pearcy determines the exact movements necessary to get your teeth into the correct position. Our team then has a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. As you replace each Invisalign aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will gradually and gently shift-little by little, until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Raskanaves has prescribed.

What are some of the responsibilities of wearing Invisalign?

It’s very important that aligners are worn the majority of the day. Compliance and cooperation is critical to any orthodontic care but especially Invisalign. Invisalign is most effective when worn 20 to 22 hours per day and changed approximately every two weeks. In fact, Invisalign aligners have blue indicators that fade over time when used as directed so we can track compliance. When Invisalign aligners are worn as directed, treatment can stay on track!

The top 5 benefits of Invisalign:

Clear: Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. No hiding your smile in meetings, engagement photos or school pick-ups and no closed-lipped selfies here!

Comfortable: Made out of smooth, sleek plastic, Invisalign aligners are extremely comfortable.

Removable: Don’t want your date to know you’re working on your smile? Take them off for the evening…just remember to put them back in before you go to sleep! It may not seem like it, but they’re constantly working while you go throughout your day.

Convenient: Fewer visits to the orthodontist, meaning fewer interruptions of your busy schedule. You only need to visit us about once every 2-3 months to ensure that your treatment progress is on track.

Wait! Don’t Order DIY Orthodontic Treatment Until You Read This http://www.supersmilz.com/wait-dont-order-diy-orthodontic-treatment-until-you-read-this/ Mon, 24 Jun 2019 18:04:22 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=997 It’s easy to do so many things these days with the click of a button. Order shoes! Get a ride across town. Watch your favorite blockbuster movie! It seems like every day there’s a newer and easier way to do almost everything. We’ve been programmed to accept that anything can be ordered online and delivered right to our front door. However, at Tucson Orthodontics there is one thing that we believe has no easy replacement: orthodontic treatment. There is no match for a trained, experienced professional when it comes to your oral health.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) agrees. They recently issued a Consumer Alert listing key questions to ask about direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies. You can download a print-friendly version here.

The issue is that many direct-to-consumer orthodontic companies don’t involve the in-person evaluation and/or in-person supervision of your treatment that we provide at Tucson Orthodontics. In-person supervision and expertise is important because there is more to creating a healthy, beautiful smile than moving the visible portions of your teeth. If not done correctly any dental work can lead to potentially irreversible and expensive damage such as tooth and gum loss, changed bites, and other issues.

The Top 10 Questions To Ask

The AAO advises that when researching orthodontic treatment (including treatment models from direct-to-consumer companies), you should consider many key questions, some of which include:

  1. As part of your treatment, are comprehensive diagnostic records like x-rays taken before your treatment?
  2. As part of your treatment fee, do you receive any in-person visits to a dentist’s or orthodontist’s office during your treatment?
  3. Is only one treatment type offered (such as invisible aligners or a certain appliance)?
  4. If a dentist or orthodontist is involved with your treatment, do you know the name of the dentist or orthodontist who will be specifically involved with your case (for example, is it available on the company’s website or elsewhere)?
  5. What are the possible risks (financial, health, etc.) associated with your orthodontic treatment?
  6. Who is responsible for detecting any issues that may occur during your orthodontic treatment? Is it you? If it is a doctor not associated with your treatment, who pays for those check-ups?
  7. If a doctor is involved with your orthodontic treatment, how can you contact him or her over the course of your treatment? How can you contact him or her if an emergency arises?
  8. If an emergency arises, does the company have a dentist or orthodontist in your area that you can see in-person? If not, who would cover the costs associated with seeing a dentist or orthodontist in your area?
  9. If you are injured or have another dispute involving your orthodontic treatment, how is it handled (litigation, arbitration, etc.) and what rights do you have?
  10. Does the treatment model comply with the dental laws in your state? To check your state’s dental laws, click https://www.aaoinfo.org/state-laws-and-regulations. Information for your state dental board can be found at https://www.aaoinfo.org/aao/state-dental-board-info.

Where You Receive Your Health Care Is A Very Important Personal Decision

He holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with Highest Honors, a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics, a Master’s Degree in Oral Biology and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Academic Fraternity, a recipient of the Psi Omega Academic Excellence Award, and was selected as the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Outstanding Student by his dental faculty.

Dr. Raksanaves graduated 1st in her dental school class of 93 students, receiving Highest Honors from the King of Thailand. She also completed her post-doctoral Orthodontic Training at the University of Louisville.

Use a Mouthguard: Always wear a mouthguard when playing sports while you’re in orthodontic treatment.

Already found your partner but still think straighter teeth would have a strong impact on your life? Your Child’s First Orthodontic Visit: It’s Earlier Than You May Think! http://www.supersmilz.com/your-childs-first-orthodontic-visit-its-earlier-than-you-may-think/ Thu, 26 Apr 2018 00:48:42 +0000 http://www.supersmilz.com/?p=919 It’s important to learn about the best time for your child’s first orthodontic visit in order to give your kiddo the opportunity for a healthy smile during the developmental years and beyond.

Oral health is vital to overall health, and we don’t just mean positive oral hygiene habits. Ensuring proper tooth alignment, a correct bite and a healthy smile are essential to childhood self-esteem. Not to mention its contribution to clear speech and an easy time breathing and sleeping. A qualified orthodontist will can ensure the health and appearance of your child’s smile early on and they can also identify irregularities that may arise in the teeth, jaws and face. It’s important to learn about early corrective options that shorten treatment time in the long-run.

So when is the best time for an appointment?
It’s important to take your child to see the orthodontist when his or her permanent teeth are starting to grow in. This age varies since every child is different, but most exams begin around the age of seven. Their first exam should definitely happen no later than age nine. Here’s why: by the time he or she is past adolescence, their bones have already set in place. While it’s not impossible to seek orthodontic care after this time, it’s certainly more difficult to bring the muscles and teeth into harmony with the rest of the face at that point.
